Philip J.W. Smith has spent the last 24+ years achieving excellence in the search for, and selection of, executive leaders in the private, municipal, and non-profit sectors. He is continuing this work across these sectors under the new business name of Smith Search.

Over the past two decades, Philip had built and developed his skills in sourcing and securing the strongest and most effective candidate fit for each of the many organizations he has served. His specialty is search and recruitment within the private, municipal, and non-profit sectors, with a focus on executive leadership. Smith Search offers a full circle consultancy to clients including direct recruitment, negotiation, contract development, and offer presentation in order to ensure that both clients and candidates alike benefit from the search and recruitment process.

Philip has honed his craft by learning alongside some of the strongest and most recognized names in the industry, along with building his own successful teams over the past 17+ years. He applies his strengths in communication and tactical coaching to strengthen professionals in the professions of search and human resources.

Success Story:

As 2020 came into view, the town council tasked me with finding a new CAO for Birch Hills County AB. The process was smooth, and the candidate pool was good, although the overwhelming changes to the hiring landscape started to show themselves in early March 2020, with the approach of Covid-19. The process would normally have seen us all meeting up and doing face to face interviews with the shortlist. However, that all changed to a virtual interview process with the shut down of so much of Canada. The team in Birch Hills was committed to community and candidate safety. We took the process to a virtual platform for all interviews and subsequently walked through those challenges together. The result allowed us to interview several qualified candidates and selecting the one that the council felt was the best match for the community's current and future needs. Months later now, both sides of the process, the committee and the new CAO, are finding their footing and building the best strategy for reaching the goals of Birch Hills County together.
